artist's statement

I produce work from looking. I begin mark-making; I search and circle and struggle to locate the anatomical nodes that might begin to convey the idea. I abstract from the figure, from the landscape, from natura mori. In the struggle to locate and accumulate the marks, the pressure points, that are anatomical locations, my drawings are empathic. I describe my method as paratactical, searching and circling in observation to locate the idea. It is non-didactic, non-lingual. Over the years, my work is increasingly reductive, cut to the bones, reduced to a core anatomy.
